Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-08-05
The short version: we collect what we need to match you with a room or a flatmate, your phone number stays private unless you decide otherwise, and we never sell it or hand it to brokers.
Who we are
Flat and Flatmate, Gurgaon, Haryana, India. You can reach us at hello@flatandflatmate.com.
What we collect
When you post a requirement, we collect:
- Your name and mobile number, so we can contact you.
- The areas, budget and move-in date you are looking for.
- The lifestyle preferences you choose to give — food, smoking, work pattern. These exist to make matches better and for no other purpose.
- Anything you type into the free-text notes field.
- A record of your consent, including the exact wording you were shown at the time.
We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, government ID, or payment details, because we do not need them.
What you agreed to
“I agree to be contacted on WhatsApp or by phone about matching rooms and flatmates. My number stays private and is never shown publicly or shared with brokers.”
This is stored with your submission. If we later change this wording, your record keeps the version you actually saw.
Your phone number
It is private by default. It is not shown on the site, not included in search results, and not shared with brokers or agents. If we ever add an option to make it public, it will be off unless you deliberately turn it on.
How long we keep it
Requirements are kept while they are active and for up to twelve months after they are closed, then deleted. Consent records are kept longer as a legal record, with the identifying details removed.
Who we share it with
Nobody, for marketing. We use service providers for hosting and messaging, who process data on our instructions only. We do not sell personal data, and we do not pass it to brokers under any arrangement.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, correct it, withdraw your consent, or have it deleted. Email hello@flatandflatmate.com from the contact details you gave us and tell us what you want done. Withdrawing consent means we stop contacting you; it does not undo messages already sent.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Anything we set is necessary for the site to function.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Where a change materially affects how we use data you have already given us, we will ask again rather than assume.
Note: this policy is written in plain language and reflects what the site actually does, but it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. See also our terms.
